SSAEAC in an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, alleged that a circular issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Boss Mustapha, “seemed tailored to restore him (U. G. Mohammed) to the office that has been occupied by another appointee”.

Recall that the Minister of Power, Engr. Mamman Saleh, approved the sack of Mr Mohammed and replaced him with Sule Abdulaziz as an interim Managing Director of TCN.

The electricity workers union in the letter, asked President Buhari not to undo the approval even with the Circular that seemed to restore Mr Mohammed.

“Your Excellency is hereby notified of pending Labour action by our union and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria against the Management of TCN headed by UG Mohammed in the unlikely event that the Circular restores him to TCN and if the wrongful termination of our President is not reversed immediately.”

While praising president Buhari for appproving the sack of Mr Mohammed, SSAEAC alleged that the embattled former MD was unfit to handle such position because of his “incompetence, indiscipline, impunity, non-compliance to rules, confrontation of his supervisors, open quarrel with other operators and financial malfeasance.”

The union accused Mr Mohammed of colluding to sabotage the national grid with over 30 hours of power disruption in December 2019, and also recently, which almost led “the National Grid to the point of partial collapse and loss of supply. This lasted for over 24 hours.

SSAEAC added that President Buhari should order a full investigation into the partial collapse of the grid, twice in six months and “determine all the masterminds and executors of the two national grid shutdowns on the 11th December 2019 and 20/5/2020.”
