Septuagenarian in court for allegedly damaging N10m building

A 75- year-old man, Joshua Oladokun, on Tuesday appeared before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun state for allegedly destroying a building of 10 rooms valued at N10 million.

Oladokun, whose address is not provided, is facing a two- count charge of conspiracy and malicious damage.

The prosecutor, Abdulkareem Mustapha, told the court that the defendant and others still at large, committed the offence on May 28 at about 4 .30 pm at Banana Estate, Iju area, Ota.

Mustapha said that the defendant and his accomplices conspired among themselves to unlawfully destroy a building of 10 rooms belonging to one Adebayo Oyekan, valued at N10 million.

He said that the offence contravenes Sections 451 and 516 of the Criminal Code of Ogun state, 2006.

The defendant however, pleaded not guilty to the charge brought against him.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. S.O. Banwo granted the defendant N1.5 million bail with two sureties in like sum.

Banwo also ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun state government.

The case was adjourned until June 10 for trial.
