Senate passes four bills for concurrence

The Senate on Tuesday passed four bills for concurrence after reading them for the second time.

The bills were; National Institute for Security Studies (NISS) (Est,etc) Bill, 2019 (HB.1583), Nigerian Police Trust Fund (Est,etc) Bill,2019 (HB 894), Harmonised Retirement Age for Teachers in Nigeria Bill, 2019 (HB 1554) and Animal Disease Control Act (Repeal& Enactment) Bill, 2019 (HB 1268).

Meanwhile, the fifth Bill scheduled on the Order Paper for consideration, the Federal University of Education , Nsugbe (Est,etc) Bill, 2019 (HB 1067) did not scale third reading because of controversy that trailed deliberations on the bill.

While some Senators argued that the recommendation of a Federal Institution of higher learning in each geopolitical zone should be respected, other said the number of higher institutions in Nigeria is not enough considering the high number of admission seeking Nigerians.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki said the bill would further be deliberated upon at another legislative days
