Senate threatens Osinbajo, says no confirmation of nominees until…

The Senate yesterday threatened Acting President Yemi Osinbajo over confirmation of nominees, saying that it would not consider any nominees until the executive obey its resolutions on rejected nominee.

Apparently referring to its rejection of Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Mr Ibrahim Magu, the Senate stated that they have resolved to suspend the consideration of all the nominees which the executive sends to it for confirmation.

The Senate resolution was sequel to a motion on privilege moved by Senator Ahmed Yerima (APC, Zamfara West).

Yerima had wondered why Osinbajo would send a nominee to the Senate after he reportedly said the lawmakers did not have the power of confirmation.

The Senate further advised the executive to respect its decision rejected nominees.
Osinbajo had sent a letter to the Senate, asking the lawmakers to confirm Mr Lanre Gbajabiamila as the director-general of Nigeria Lottery Commission.
