Mayoral position: Sen. Aduda may defect to APC

Indications have emerged that the only senator representing the people of the Federal Capital Territory in the Senate, Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda, may defect to the governing All Progressives Congress (APC), as the only condition to clinch the mayoral position for the FCT, when he serves out his tenure at the Senate.
Recall that the mayoral position is constitutional for the Federal Capital Territory as it is given the status of a state with mayoral position to govern its activities.
Senator Aduda’s ambition for the position was made known during the Senator’s flag-off of scholarship scheme, a constituency project initiated to help the growing number of undergraduates in the FCT.
Revealing Aduda’s intention to become the first FCT mayor and the National Assembly’s unperturbed resolve to fulfill the constitutional requirement, Senator representing Kogi North, Senator Dino Melaye, who is also the Chairman, Senate Committee on FCT, noted that Aduda, irrespective of party divide, has always fought for his people and ensured that such is secured. He stressed that Aduda’s type is what the people need for a good representation.
Senator Melaye said: “I believe that Philip Aduda is on the right track; on fighting for his people, where he needs to prostrate, he does what is needed to get what he wants. And I also believe that he needs the right party to work with”.
While dropping hints for the youths of the six area councils of the FCT, who were the beneficiaries of the academic scholarship at various tertiary institutions, Melaye reiterated the need for the Nigerian youths to get deep in active politics to take their destiny at their hands.
He remarked that about 60% of Nigerian youths today have reached the electoral age but wastes their lives on sniffing hard drugs.
“Tell your neighbour to be a change agent. We cannot have a changed society when we cannot ask how Nigeria is governed. Please advise the youths to stop wasting their life time on taking drugs.
“I can tell you that I was at my 30s when I was in the House of Representatives. Then at 40s, I ventured into the Senate and now contesting with people who were already governors when we were at the secondary school. If I can do it, you can do it and you must picture your dream”.
The Minister of FCT, Malam Mohammed Bello, while presenting a gift of APC party flag to lure Senator Aduda, which was instantly rejected by the host, observed that creating opportunities such like this pronounces what his administration should be enjoying from the indigenes of the FCT.
The minister however reiterated his administration’s resolve to giving the people a desired education in the FCT.
“I suppose I am the luckiest person on earth for having people like this in the FCT, hence the need for Government to provide everything for the people”.
Malam Belo while insisting that the beneficiaries must appreciate this kind gesture also reminded that Aduda is not the only representative of the FCT at the National Assembly and needs commendation. He also admonished the students and other artisans to make good use of the opportunity which is once in a life time.
The Minister promised that his administration will always support the ambition of the senator who could make good sacrifices to empower the people.
