Scores Die in ‎Bloody Clash between Police and Pipeline Vandals  

 

There was a bloody clash in Igando area of Lagos yesterday, 14th of May after a shootout between pipeline vandals and policemen attached to the Inspector-General of Police Special Task Force on Anti-pipeline Vandalism, killed several people.

Though the police is yet to issue a statement confirming the number of deaths, according to unconfirmed reports, three policemen and nine vandals lost their lives during the bloody shootout.

Some witnesses say that over 20 armed pipeline vandals positioned themselves strategically in the swamp to wade off intruders.

While some kept watch, others reportedly burst two underground pipelines from where they siphoned petroleum products.

The policemen, who apparently got information on the operation and rushed to the area and on sighting the police, the vandals reportedly opened fire.

Residents claim they were perturbed by sounds of sporadic gunshots from the creeks and alerted policemen from Igando and neighbouring divisions.

The police is yet to release a public statement on the occurrence, however, a senior police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the incident.
