Save victims of kidney disease, Sultan tasks philanthropists, organisations

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has urged public-spirited Nigerians and corporate organisations to donate towards saving the lives of victims of kidney disease.

Speaking at the opening of the 24th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Scientific Conference of the Nigerian Association of Urological Surgeons on Thursday in Sokoto, the Sultan urged institutions to continue to explore opportunities that would further improve on its services to the society at large.

Represented by the Sarkin Yakin Gagi, Alhaji Sanni Umar, he said,’’We cannot fold our hands and watch our brothers and sisters die of Urological and related diseases.

“I, therefore, urge you to continue to explore more opportunities that will improve the standard of operations at the institute,”.

Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state, represented by the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Ali Inname, appealed to local and international donors to help improve the health conditions of the patients.

“Our donation no matter how little will help in saving so many lives. So I am calling on well-meaning Nigerians and private organisations to donate generously to this cause,” he said.

He applauded the urological services rendered by the newly established Institute of Urology of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto.
