Salary crisis: Osun APC appeals to FG for bailout

All Progressive Congress (APC), Osun state chapter, on Wednesday, urged the Federal Government to intervene in the salary crises facing many states in the country.

The party, in a statement issued by its Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy, Kunle Oyatomi, said the salary crises is nearing emergency situation, hence the need for intervention by the federal government.

While the party commended the Federal Government for its previous bailout intervention, it stressed that intervention “is not only inadequate, it has only marginally addressed the crisis.

“To avoid an emergency that could create difficulties for the economy in the next decade, the Federal Government must address the problem now, even if it means having recourse to our reserves.”

According to the party, a situation in which many states are owing their workers’ salaries between five and 10 months is dangerous, adding that “what was cynically thought to be an Osun problem is now suddenly a national emergency which the Federal Government can ill afford to ignore.”

The party further averred that the salary crisis is a critical factor in the economic stagnation the country is experiencing, stressing that “except it is handled nationally by the Federal Government, it is unlikely that the crisis will go away soon.

“We are therefore appealing to President Muhammadu Buhari and the federal government to help the affected states ‎out of this crisis.”
