RUMOURS: Man City to sanction defender purchase in January

Vincent Kompany’s latest injury has caused concern at the Etihad club, whose top dogs have arranged a meeting to discuss the release of funds for a new centre-back
Manchester City chiefs have scheduled an emergency meeting regarding the release of funds for Pep Guardiola to spend on a centre-back in January, according to the Guardian.
The Catalan coach has been left short in defence due to transfer failings in the summer and Vincent Kompany’s latest injury, and has stressed the importance of a fresh arrival in the new year.
Guardiola marked Leonardo Bonucci and Aymeric Laporte as targets in the summer but the club failed to sign either, though they were able to secure a deal for Everton centre-back John Stones.
And although the England defender has had a bright start to his life at the Etihad, Guardiola is to push for another top-class arrival to partner the 23-year-old.
