Renowned businesswoman Gbemisola Olowolafe dies at 63

The family of Dr Tunji Olowolafe has announced the passing of Mrs Gbemisola Olutayo Olowolafe, who died peacefully on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, after a short illness. She was 63.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and a pillar of strength, Mrs Olowolafe was widely known for her grace, compassion, and unwavering faith. Throughout her life, she dedicated herself to uplifting others, leaving a lasting impact through her kindness, quiet generosity, and service to her community.

Mrs Olowolafe was a highly accomplished professional and businesswoman, contributing significantly to multiple sectors, including healthcare, education, and infrastructure. She was a driving force behind numerous philanthropic and developmental initiatives, working alongside her husband, Dr Tunji Olowolafe, a leading Nigerian industrialist, businessman, and philanthropist.

Dr Olowolafe, originally trained as a medical doctor, has built a distinguished career as a corporate leader, with interests spanning public infrastructure development, manufacturing, healthcare, technology, and education. He is the Chairman of Deux Project, a foremost infrastructure and construction company, and also serves as Chancellor of Ekiti State University (EKSU). His leadership extends to several key organisations, including the Lekki Concession Company (LCC), GZI Industries, and West Power & Gas, the primary stakeholder in Eko Electricity Distribution Company (Eko Disco).

Additionally, Dr Olowolafe holds non-executive director positions at Infracorp Nigeria, a $15 billion infrastructure investment entity co-founded by the Central Bank of Nigeria, Africa Finance Corporation (AFC), and Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA). He is also a board member of uLesson, a leading Nigerian edtech company. In 2024, he established the Tunji Olowolafe Foundation to advance education, modern agricultural methods, and technological skills in underserved Nigerian communities.

The Olowolafe family has expressed deep gratitude for the outpouring of support, prayers, and condolences from friends and well-wishers across the world. They have requested privacy as they make arrangements to honour Mrs Olowolafe’s life. Funeral and memorial service details will be communicated in due course.
