A viral social media post trending in all platforms is seen to be implicating the Adamawa State Residence Electoral commissioner (REC), Barr Kassim Gaidem to have collected one million US dollars in connection with the coming presidential elections of 23rd February 2019. An earlier report revealed that the Presidential candidate of Peoples Democracy Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar gave one million dollars with a promised of a House in Dubai to Gaidam for the purpose of Saturday’s elections. Making a rebuttal of the weighty allegation, Kassim considers the report as ”fake news”; he revealed that in his whole life he has never had a one-on-one contact with Atiku Abubakar who has been accredited as the source of the money given to him. “I can state without fear of contradiction that Atiku probably does not know how I look, because I’ve never met him personally, all my life. I was shocked to read what was credited to me by some unscrupulous persons,” Kassim said. Kassim who is an experienced senior official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),conducted many elections in Adamawa state and other States in the country said his integrity at this time cannot be challenged by some unscrupulous elements that are good in propagating and fake news. “I have been conducting elections in this country, this not the first time i reside as the number INEC official in Adamawa state, without missing words nobody can raise an accusing finger of corruption on me. “I have a name tag; I can’t allow my good name to be dragged into the mud of corruption.” Gaidam refuted He maintained that INEC is committed and focused on conducting credible elections in the country and Adamawa State can never be in any way exceptional.
