Presidential aspirant Umaru Shinkafi, is dead

A former presidential aspirant in the third republic, Umaru Shinkafi, is dead.

Shinkafi died in a London hospital on Wednesday after a prolonged illness, a statement by the Zamfara State Commissioner for Information, Umar Jibo, said.

“Umaru Shinkafi died in a London hospital today. His remains will be flown back to Nigeria on Friday for prayers at the Sultan Bello Mosque, Sokoto before his interment in Sokoto,” Jibo said.

The former presidential aspirant was initially admitted at the St. Nicholas Hospital, Lagos. He was flown abroad when his health worsened.

The former head of the National Security Organisation, who hailed from Zamfara State, was also a federal Commissioner of Internal Affairs.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday evening commiserated with the government and people of Sokoto State on his death.
