President should step down during election- HURIJE

The Chairman, Human Rights, Liberty Access and Peace Defenders Foundation (HURIJE), Dede Uzor A. Uzor, has called for the amendment of Nigeria Constitution that will compel the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces to step down before an election he is a participant.
Speaking to newsmen in Onitsha in his reaction to the alleged massive rigging of the presidential election by the incumbent party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dede Uzor said that is the only way out of the continued electoral fraud perpetuated by the party in power in the country.
He said as long as the President was allowed stay in office to run for the election, the President and his party men would use Government machinery and institutions to manipulate the election to their advantage as APC had allegedly done in the last presidential election.
He decried the situation the Party in power used public fund and institutions to rig themselves back to power.
Dede Uzor who is also the National Publicity Secretary of Campaign for Democracy (CD), said the last presidential election was marred with massive irregularities which compromised the integrity of the election before the eyes of Nigerians and international community.
He called on President Muhammad Buhari to resign due to lack of credibility of the election, stressing that Nigerians of good conscience and democrats would definitely resist the injustice and the electoral fraud.
The right activist said that there was overwhelming evidence all over the country and the contradictory results posted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that the integrity of the election was seriously compromised
He called on the Presidential Candidate of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to resist attempts from any quarter to cajole him not to pursue his mandate to its logical conclusion.
