Polls Results: Political Thugs Clash in Ondo

Youths suspected to be political thugs, on Tuesday, disrupted the existing peace currently being enjoyed by the people of Idanre, in Ondo State, by engaging in acts of violence.

The violence came barely 48 hours after the announcement of the Presidential and National Assembly election results by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state.

A source in the town told journalists that the thugs were members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) in the town, who clashed, in a show of strength, following the announcement of the results.

Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari, won the presidential result in the state with 299, 889 votes against President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 251, 368.

A total of 150, 1804 voters registered in the state, while 618, 040 were accredited. ‎Total vote cast is ‎561, 056‎.

Many people believed to be traders in the town were badly wounded and attacked by the rampaging two party thugs.

The areas of the town affected by the violence were Ojota, Sabo, Anaye Market and Palace Road.

The violence shut down social and commercial activities in the town for several as residents scampered for safety, amidst destruction of property.

The Police spokesman in the state, Wole Ogodo, confirmed the crisis and that the Divisional Police Station was investigating the crisis matter.
