Police rescue mother, daughter from kidnappers in Delta

Delta state Police Command on Sunday confirmed that a mother and her daughter kidnapped in Okpanam Community near Asaba by suspected Fulani hersdmen were at the weekend rescued by the police anti- kidnapping unit.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Onome Onovwakpoyeya, who confirmed this in a press statement made available to journalists in Asaba, said that one of the suspects was arrested while efforts were being intensified to arrest other fleeing members of the gang.
Onovwakpoyeya said that the police anti-kidnapping unit was immediately, drafted to investigate the addiction after the matter was reported.
He added that the unit was supported by a crack team constituted by the state Commissioner of Police, Hafiz Inuwah, while the victims were rescued unhurt and have been reunited with their family.
It would be recalled that suspected Fulani herdsmen kidnapped the victims from their homes and killed two vigilante members who had attempted to rescue the woman and her daughter before taking them to their hideout before they were rescued by the police.
Meanwhile, the state police command has also confirmed the arrest of 26 suspects in connection with the violence that occurred at the Abraka Market during which one person was killed.
Onovwakpoyeya said security has been beefed up in the area while investigation was ongoing as measures have been put in place to check an escalation of the crisis.

Also, 80 youths in Ughelli were at the weekend arrested for violating the social distancing order of the Delta state government.
They were said to have been arrested at a popular event center, Adam Event Center at Ihwerekpokpor Community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state following a tip -off by residents
Confirming the arrest of the youths, the council boss, Godwin Adode, blamed the management of the center for accommodating a population of more than 30 persons at the same time, despite enough campaign and sensitisation by the state government and Ughelli North Local Government Council.
