Police refute abduction of 20 personnel in Yobe

The police in Yobe dismissed as “misleading” reports insinuating that 20 policemen were abducted by Boko Haram insurgents during an attack in Gujba Local Government Area of the state

This is contained in a statement by the Spokesman of the Command, ASP Dungus Abdulkarim, on Friday in Damaturu.

Abdulkarim said the attention of the command had been drawn to media reports that 20 police personnel were kidnapped by insurgents during an attack on Buni-Yadi, Gujba LGA.

He said that it was imperative to correct such negative impressions in view of the sensitive nature of the issue and the prevailing security situation in the state.

“It is equally important that the actual facts and circumstances surrounding the incident must be brought to light, for the sake of the families of police personnel serving in Yobe.

“The story on the alleged kidnaping of 20 police personnel in Buni-Yadi and their rescue by troops is misleading, fabricated and fak, as no single policeman was kidnapped from Buni-Yadi town on the day of the alleged incident,” he said.

Abdulkarim said that on Tuesday, Nov. 30, suspected members of Boko Haram insurgents attacked the Buni-Yadi Police Station, in Gujba, adding that there was neither loss of life nor any police personnel missing.

“All the conventional personnel of the Division, as well as the Police Mobile Force personnel, had been accounted after the incident.”

The statement, therefore, enjoined members of the public to disregard the fake news.
