Police parade 39 suspected criminals, launch ‘operation puff adder’ in Bauchi

The Bauchi state Police Command says it has arrested 39 suspects in connections with various crimes across the state.

The state Police Commissioner, Ali Aji Janga, stated this while ‎speaking at the launch of ‘operation puff adder’ at the command’s headquarters, Bauchi on Thursday. 

Exhibits recovered from the suspects according to the police commissioner, include, five dane guns, nine cutlasses, one sharp knife, three motor-cycles and 29 blocks of wrapped dry leave suspected to be Indian hemp‎.

Others items recovered from the suspects, he said are two axes, three long sticks, and one Tiger electricity generator.

Janga said the new operation would prevent the influx of criminal elements into the state in view of the ongoing security operations in neighboring Gombe state and will also enable the police to mop up arms from the hands of criminals wherever they hide them.

‎According to the police commissioner, the security challenges facing the state, include, kidnapping, armed robbery, activities of various gangs and cultism amongst others.

He noted that ‘operation puff adder’ was designed to work hand in hand with all security agencies and critical stakeholders to guarantee the security of the state.

He recalled that a similar operation was launched by the acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu aimed at tackling kidnapping, armed robbery and banditry along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway and other parts of the country and directed all police commissioners to do same in their respective states.

According to him, it was in respect of that directive that the Bauchi state Police Command under his watch inaugurated the operation under his direct supervision and called on the people of the state to support all the security agencies with useful tips on the hideout of criminals to enable the force fish them out.
