Police arrest 105 suspected thugs in Imo

At least 105 suspected political thugs have been arrested by the police force in Imo state during Saturday’s governorship and state assembly elections.

The suspects according to the Imo state Commissioner of Police, Dazuki Galadanchi, were arrested for various electoral offences during elections in the state.

According to Galadanchi, the suspects were said to have been arrested for snatching ballot boxes, disrupting the election process, harassing electoral officials and impersonating policemen.

Galadanchi, who disclosed this to newsmen on Sunday, explained that investigations had commenced into the various offences allegedly committed by the suspects in custody.

He stated that the election was largely hitch-free and smooth across the state, adding that investigation had commenced into the killing of one person at Umudi, Nkwerre Local Government Area.

He said that “we have 105 suspects in custody. They were arrested for various electoral offences during the elections.”

Meanwhile, the delay in the collation and declaration of results is generating anxiety across the state. Findings indicate that results from the polling booths were still being collated at the local government areas, sparking fears that the delay might be orchestrated to manipulate the outcome.
