Plateau Speaker push for Peace Corps Inclusion in 2018 Budget

Speaker Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Peter Azi, at the weekend advocated the inclusion of Peace Corps funding in the 2018 budget.

Azi made the call when officers and men of the corps, Plateau state command, visited the State House of Assembly on a thank you rally to express appreciation with the National Assembly for passing the bill establishing the Peace Corps into law.

The Speaker also called on President Muhammad Buhari to sign the bill awaiting his assent as soon as he returns to the country.

According to him, “we are in synergy with the the National Assembly and we are working to ensure that the peace corps bill gets the President’s assent.

“President Buhari is a man who is passionate about the security of this country and with this I am appealing that provision should be made for the peace corps in next year’s budget”, he said.

However, the chairman House Committee on security and labour in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Daniel Dem, while speaking at the occasion said “we would continue to support the members of the Peace corps at all times and ensure that the bill gets final assent by the President for the interest of the teaming youths who are unemployed.

Dem called on members of the Corps to be law abiding, adding that the Plateau State government will continue to support the course until it finally gets the presidents assent.

Speaking earlier the Plateau State Commandant of the Peace Corps, Patriot Joseph Sunday, said they were in the State House of to thank the members for their support during its public hearing and called on the House to continue to support the struggle.
