Plateau Killings: One dead as youths demand immediate sack of STF

Another attack in Maingo community under Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State on Thursday left one person dead as youths in the community demanded that the Special Task Force (STF) must leave their community.

The angry youths said that with the presence of the security agencies in their community, yet, suspected Fulani herdsmen still go on with their gruesome murder, saying of what use is the presence of the STF in the community.

Speaking with the Task-force spokesperson, Captain Umar Adams, he narrated that “the resent attack was ignited as a result of the alleged killing of four cattle reported by the Fulani herdsmen few days ago, however, accusing the natives of killing the cattle, a middle aged man (a native of Maingo) was found dead the next day.

“Consequently, youths of the community alleged that the middle aged man was killed by the Fulani herdsmen as a result of the lost of their four cattle, thereby demanding that the STF should leave the Maingo community,” he said.

The STF spokesman however, said normalcy has returned to the community, adding that the task-force Commander, Major General Anthony Atolagbe, with officers and men intervened in the face-off.

However the immediate past Local Government Chairman of Bassa LGA, Hon. David Racha, said the incessant killing of the natives by herdsman is one too many calling on security agencies and other relevant authorities to produce the perpetrators.
