PDP Stakeholders Meeting: I was not invited – State Chairman

The State Chairman of the Plateau People’s Democratic Party, Hon. Amos Gombi has said, he was not invited to the meeting conveyed by Sen. Jonah Jang, describing it as gathering of those who worked with the former governor.

Gombi said the meeting should not be mistaken for a PDP stakeholders meeting, saying that most party faithfuls including him as Chairman and Jeremiah Useni who was the Party’s guber candidate in the 2019 general elections were not in attendance.

The PDP Chairman stated this on Wednesday in Jos, while interacting with our reporter on the current state of the party.
He said: “It was not a PDP stakeholders meeting but a gathering conveyed by the former governor, Jonah Jang, to interact with his former political loyalists”, Gombi said.
The Chairman said though he was a member of the Plateau State House of Assembly, when Jang was governor, yet the invitation to attend the gathering was not extended to him.
Sen. Jang had last Friday organised a stakeholders meeting aimed at reconciling the party and repositioning it ahead of 2023 polls.
The party has been in turmoil since the exit of Damishi Sango as Chairman, based on the recommendation of the National Executive Committee (NEC), who also recommended that Sango’s deputy in the person of Amos Gombi takes over as acting Chairman.
The recommendation which did not enjoy acceptance from party members from the northern zone, saw the party making disturbing headlines with possible factional Chairman.
However reacting further to the meeting conveyed by Jang, Gombi said he is happy that the gathering was also preaching peace and reconciliation.
“I met with Jang two days after the meeting was held, and we had fruitful discussions centred around unity and bringing party members together.
“PDP will get its footings right, especially now that the elders are meeting. After the gathering, Jang had also visited Useni and their discussion was also how to move the party forward”, Gombi said.
The acting Chairman who said he will remain in PDP till death, also said he is optimistic that the party will regain power in 2023.
When asked if he will contest any political office after exiting as Chairman, he said: “I am not aspiring for any political office, except my people wants me to, but for now, I stand by my words that I will not contest for any position”, he said.
