PDP ready to take over Lagos in 2019 – Lawmaker

A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Amuwo-Odofin constituency 01 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Dipo Olorunrinu has declared that the party was ready to take over the governance of the state come 2019.

Olorunrinu who expressed confidence on the readiness of the PDP to take over the control of the state which has been under the APC since its days as the Alliance For Democracy, (AD), Action Congress, (AC) Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and now the All Progressives Congress (APC) since the current political dispensation in 1999 said the PDP only needed a reform and restructuring so that it would be better positioned to wrest power from the ruling APC when the time comes.

The lawmaker, who spoke with Assembly Correspondents said members of the PDP in the house were not in the House to foment trouble but to serve the people of their various constituencies and by extension the people of the state. He said opposition lawmakers in the House were concerned about moving the state forward saying there is nothing like minority or majority in the House. “We have a lot to do and we are here to ensure peace. It is not about any party, it is about delivering the dividends of democracy to the people. However, I would say that so far, the performances of the PDP members in the House is not up to average,” he said. On the forthcoming local government elections in the state, the politician explained that the PDP is giving everybody the privilege, right and effrontery to attain his or her best as well as the platform to operate unlike what obtains in the ruling APC.

The PDP lawmaker said his party members have prepared and now 100% ready for the forthcoming local government elections. He however, said he was not satisfied with the composition of the members of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC). Commenting on the state of insecurity in the country, Olorunrinu said Nigerians need to be realistic and sincere instead of blaming the past government for what is happening. “The issue has always been there, Boko Haram was a security threat in the northern part of Nigeria, which the people took advantage of to foment troubles. “We need to look at the issues critically. A lot of things that affect the masses is a plus to some people. We need to beam searchlight at the beneficiaries of these crisis, we should start from the beneficiaries and we need to approach it in the right way,” he said.
