PDP, LP, five other parties wooing Peter Obi for 2027 Presidential ticket, says Obidient Leader

Yunusa Tanko, national coordinator of the Obidient Movement, says at least seven political parties including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC)  are courting Peter Obi for the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking on AIT’s Focus programme on Wednesday, Tanko said Obi remains a member of the Labour Party but also serves as one of the leaders of a coalition of opposition politicians.

He noted that while the Obidient Movement supports Obi, it operates independently of the Labour Party.

“One thing you must know is that the most popular presidential candidate in Nigeria and indeed for Nigerian interest across the world is Peter Obi, there is no doubt about it,” he said.

Tanko declined to name the other parties willing to offer Obi their platform, saying it was to prevent them from becoming targets of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He accused the administration of President Bola Tinubu of instigating crises within major opposition parties to block Obi’s chances.

“This government is very good in creating problems in every political party that Peter Obi’s name has come up,” Tanko said.

“Anywhere the name Peter Obi rings a bell, that is where they are interested in making sure that he doesn’t win. It is ‘Operation do not allow Peter Obi have a ticket’.”

Tanko expressed confidence that Obi would secure a presidential ticket from any party he chooses, adding that the movement aims to avoid a repeat of the 1993 scenario in which MKO Abiola, widely regarded as the most popular candidate, was denied the presidency.

“This time around we have a presidential candidate that is alive, popular, requested, and needed by Nigerian youths who have not been so much into politics before but now are interested. We must give them that opportunity,” he said.
