Parties should not tear Ndigbo apart – Beatrice Ekwueme

Wife of a former Vice-President of Nigeria, Dame Beatrice Ekwueme, has urged Ndigbo not to allow their different political parties to divide them.

Dame Ekwueme made the call during her school’s 5th Biennial Inter House Sports Competition at the Federal Polytechnic Sports Centre, Oko recently.

Mrs. Ekwueme noted that Northerners and South Westerners place their origin above belonging to political parties, stressing that Ndigbo should think toward similar direction.

“First and foremost, a Yoruba knows that he is a Yoruba before being a member of a political party.

“A Hausa indigene knows that he is Hausa before being a member of a political party. Ndigbo, let us think and never allow party politics to tear us apart,’’ she stated.

Meanwhile, Proprietress, Gaius Benton Schools, Oko, reacted to a call by the Transition Committee Chairman, Orumba North LGA, Mr. Emeka Aforka, to upgrade the school to international standards.

She said: “It is a good idea but the road that leads to the school is not of international standard yet. That is an Anambra Government road and we expect the road be upgraded soon.

“I know that I have spoken about this road to Governor of Anambra State but I only want to mention it again,” she added.

The TC chairman, who launched the 2nd edition of the school’s calendar, commended the school for setting the pace for others to follow.

He thanked Governor Willie Obiano for working tirelessly for Ndi Anambra, saying that Orumba North benefited immensely from his good works.

Principal of the school, Mrs. Chinwendu Ezeofor, emphasised the importance of sporting activities.

“In the early 60s and 80s, Games and sports featured prominently in our school’s curriculum and time table.

“Inter House sports competition carried out once in a year or once in every two years in all the schools and colleges in our state.

“And, this positively affect health and life of students and pupils as well as inculcate in the spirit of sportsmanship,” Mrs. Ezeofor said.
