Pandemonium as transport union clashes with Karota, police in Kano

There was pandemonium in Kano on Wednesday morning as a branch of Road Transport Union which operates at the Gyedigyedi Round About clashes with the Kano State Road Traffic Agency popularly known as Karota and the Nigeria police force attached to the agency.
When contacted, the public relations officer Karota Faruk Gali disclosed that their officers were out on an operation to shut down illegal motor parks in the state when they came under attack by operators of such park wielding all kind of Dangerous weapons at Ado bayero Fly over bridge where 20 officers of the agency were critically injured and a vehicle belonging to the agency was also damaged.
He further stated that a police officer was shot at by the hoodlums and is currently receiving treatment at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) from the wounds sustained from the gunshot alongside the 20 officers while those with minor injuries have been treated and discharged. He stated that the Agency remain committed to riding the state of illegal motor park which he said is prohibited in any developed society.
Confirming the incidence via a phone call, the State Police Public Relations Officer ASP Majia denied speculations that an officer of the Command sustained gunshot wounds but rather that he was attacked and injured with machetes by the hoodlums and that no death was recorded except cases of injuries.
Majia stated that peace has returned to the area as armed police men have been deployed to the area to maintain law and order.
Eye witnesses stated that Karota officials attacked the park operators with clubs while the police personnel attached to them fired teargas which provoked the park operators to retaliate. Large number of vehicles were observed to have been damaged as a result of the class.
