Ondo APC women group to protest Melaye assault on Tinubu

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Women for Women Group in Ondo State would today (Monday) stage a protest against Senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi West at the Senate House for allegedly assaulting a fellow female colleague, Oluremi Tinubu during an executive session of the Senate.
The State Co-ordinator of the group, Fola Olasehinde, who promised to mobilised all women for today’s protest said the attack on Tinubu was one too many on Nigerian women.
Olasehinde accused Melaye of having records of assaults and physical attacks on women as seen in the reports of his first wife, Tokunbo Melaye.
Shs described the action Melaye has inhuman, indecent and a shameful behaviour from a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Olaseinde said, “Melaye could flex his muscles if he so will but not by being a bully in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as evident in the way he sprang up from his seat and charged towards Senator Tinubu and threatened to physically assault her.
“This is the height of legislative rascality ever perpetrated by any law-maker in this country and Mr. Melaye has misrepresented the good people of Kogi West Senatorial District, who elected him into office by his barbaric show of shame that has become a national embarrassment”, she said
According to her, it was unparliamentary for anyone in the Legislative Assembly to exhibit aggression – verbal or physical assault, still less expressing derogatory sexual harassment against a fellow female member.
She called for appropriate sanctions to be meted out to Melaye by the leadership of the Senate, so as to serve as deterrent to all men who assault women in the country.
Olasehinde added that the National Assembly should make laws for the safety of women in this country.
