Okpebholo suspends response team over misconduct

Edo State Governor, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, has suspended the activities of the Public Safety Response Team(PSRT) indefinitely.

It was gathered that there have been several complaints of misconduct by the PSRT, with the latest resulting in the death of a two-year-old girl on Wednesday.

Officers of the PSRT at Ring Road in Benin reportedly attempted to seize the steering wheel of a moving vehicle, causing the driver to lose control.

The bus in question then veered off the road and rammed into a roadside POS kiosk where the young girl and her mother were standing, killing the child instantly.

According to eyewitnesses, the enraged crowd descended on PSRT operatives before taking them, along with the child’s lifeless body, to a nearby police station.

A statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ikhilor, partly reads, “It is hereby announced for the information of the general public that the Governor of Edo State, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, has ordered the indefinite suspension of the Public Safety Response Team headed by Kelly Okungbowa.
