Ojudu visits Gani Adams, says Aare title, well deserved

The need for unity and cohesion among Yoruba people to forge a common front that would bring about rapid development in the zone formed the fulcrum of discussions as the Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, paid a courtesy visit to the National Coordinator of the Oodua Peoples Congress ( OPC) and the new, Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Chief Ganiyu Abiodun Adams.

A statement signed by the Publicity Coordinator, Ekiti Rebirth Organisation, Mr. Gboyega Adeoye and made available to the Daily Times, said. “The presidential aide paid the visit to the Aare designate in company with a top Ekiti All Progressives Congress, APC, chieftain, Kayode Afolabi; and a host of other political loyalists.

“Ojudu, who described the conferment of the Aare Ona Kakanfo title on Adams as well-deserved, charged him to see his new assignment as a call to higher challenges ahead”.
He described Adams as a rare Yoruba man who had paid his dues, especially in the struggle that greeted the annulment of the epoch-making June 12, 1993 election, which eventually led to the ouster of the military regime that paved the way for the current democracy.

“The new title of Aare Ona Kakanfo, bestowed on you is a well-deserved one. You have actually paid your dues to merit this highly revered position in that when your mates were sleeping over the challenges posed by the annulment of the annulled June 12, 1993 election, you were there in the trenches with other compatriots, fighting hard to liberate your people.

“The Aare title bestowed on you is a call to greater challenges. The Yoruba race is still far behind on the path of development. We need someone like you with the requisite energy to drive the race back to the track of liberty. This is a challenge you must use your good offices to foster, while we promise, not only to support you but also champion the course to ensure that the Yoruba people, both home and abroad, join hands to make Yoruba liberation a collective struggle,” Ojudu said.

According to the statement, the “Highly elated Adams paid glowing tribute to the Ojudu for his past effort in using his career as a journalist to shape the society.
“Life is not only about money, but about how well we have done in our relationship with our fellow human beings and the society. I respect your humility and good works which did not start now,” the Aare Ona Kakanfo said.
Going down memory lane, Adams commended Ojudu for using his publications, The News, Tempo and PM News to champion the cause of the masses, as well as his symbolic presence at his mother’s burial in 2007.
