OGUN, FG PARTNER ON EFFECTIVE DRUGS DISTRIBUTION… TARGET EXPIRY DATES.

The Ogun State Government in collaboration with the Federal Government have said that in other to guide against drugs expiring before getting to the end users, effective drugs chain distribution and management as been described as an important factor in procurement of drugs and supply in the Country.
This was made known by the State Commissioner for Health Dr. Babatunde Ipaye while playing host to members of the National Product Supply Chain Management Programme(NPSCMP), Department of Food & Drugs Services, Federal Ministry of Health, Abuja recently at his Oke-Mosan Office in Abeokuta.
Commissioner said the Collaboration with stakeholders that matters in the industrie to include the Ministries,Depaments and Agencies of Government would further strentgthen human capacity development for public health sector commodities management in Nigeria.
Ipaye said the State is always ready to partner the FG particularly in areas that has to do with health of the people, adding that already the State had been up and doing when its come to distribution and mangement of drugs to all health care facilities across the State.
Speaking earlier, The Team Leader, National Product Supply Chain Management Programme/Nigeria Supply Chain Integration Project, Department of Food & Drugs Services, Federal Ministry of Health, Parm.(Mrs.) Abdulhameed Wosilat, said the aim of the partnership was to coordinate all health commodities at the Federal level through an effective integrated supply chain in Nigeria, adding that it would also improved patient access to availability of drugs, control and efficient last mile delivery of all other health commodities across the Country.
She said presently the progrmme is currently running effectively in 14 States which they all taken ownership, saying that it would also guide the end users particularly those in the rural areas of Country against the intake of expired drugs.
” Currently the Logistics Management Coordinating Units (LMCU) of 14 States that have taken ownership of the programme are well stregtening and coordinated and as Ogun is already positioned am very sure that the programme will be well sustain” She said.
In his welcome address, the Director, Pharmaceutical Department, Ogun State Ministry of Health, Pharm. Olufemi Fafiolu, said the State would only need to key in to the programme, adding that its a laudable programme that would eradicate stock out, eradicate drugs being expired, ensure optimum storage and good condition of drugs, streghten the logistic supply system of the State and reduced the cost of destroying expired drugs across the Country.
