Nyesome Wike: Amaechi has no respect for the rule of law

Nyesome Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), has criticized Rotimi Amaechi’s moral and political values, claiming that he has no respect for the judiciary or rule of law.

Wike made the statement on Tuesday during his appearance on ‘Politics Today’, as he verbally attacks the personality of the man whom he succeeded as the Governor of Rivers state.

On August 9, Amaechi granted an interview where he discussed the possibility of defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections should he get the ADC ticket, being one of the frontliners in the coalition movement.

Amaechi, who came second during the APC presidential primaries, believed that he has what he takes to win the election because he knows the weakness of President Tinubu.

However, in the interview with Channels TV, Wike affirmed that his former boss will not get the ADC presidential ticket, let alone defeating an incumbent president.

“I read that he said he knows the weaknesses of the president, so he knows how to defeat him. But he also knew the weaknesses of the president in 2022 when the president defeated him mercilessly in the primary.

“Nigerians know the last person they will give a ticket to because they know it (Amaechi’s bid) is dead on arrival. He knows he won’t get the ticket,” Wike said.

Speaking further, the FCT minister countered Amaechi’s claim of being an incorruptible person who has never participated in election rigging by pointing accusing fingers at his personality.

“If I become president, I will change the constitution from indigeneship to citizenship. If I do not end corruption in Nigeria within one month, I will tender my resignation,” Amaechi had said.

Wike, however, questioned how someone who lacks credibility on governance and anti-corruption, and had no respect for the judiciary or the rule of law while he was Rivers’ governor, can promise to end corruption in a month.

Rotimi Amaechi served as Rivers state governor for 8 years between 2007 and 2015, before serving as the minister of transportation under the late Buhari from 2015 to 2022.

The all rounded politician will face stiff competition from Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi and Nasir El-Rufai who are all interested in the presidential seat after joining the ADC coalition group.
