Nunugwo’s wife seeks probe of husband’s death, body’s release 4 years after

Four years after, the misery sounding the death of Desmond Nunugwo, a former chief protocol officer, Ministry of Defence in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) remains unraveled with no response from the anti-graft agency, Office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Department of State Services (DSS) to the family.

Even a petition written on June 21,2017 on behalf of the deceased’s wife, Mrs Susan Nunugwo, by her lawyer, Amobi Nzelu, to the president of the Senate seeking a probe and the release of the corpse to the family for s befitting burial has been ignored.

Besides, a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to Nunugwo’s arrest and death, the family is also demanding an autopsy on the body which was deposited in the morgue of the National Hospital since 2016.

They also demanded that N2 billion should be paid to the family by the Federal Government through the EFCC as damages..

The family is also demanding that all those directly, indirectly and remotely connected with Nunugwo’s arrest and death be prosecuted.

The counsel claimed in the petition that the allegation against the deceased was that he introduced to one Uloma Kalu a business partner from where the former eventually benefited.

However, the details, consummation and execution of the transactions between Uloma and the partner of were not made known to the deceased.

” It was when the said business went sore that Uloma petitioned the EFCC,” the petition stated.

Less than 24 hours after the petition, Uloma and some operatives of EFCC traced Nunugwo to his lawyer- friend’s office were he was arrested and taken into custody.

The operatives placed a call to the deceased’ wife the following day, telling her the husband was being detained but before she could reach the detention facility she was informed he was dead.

Mrs. Nunugwo said that she has not got any response to all the letters she wrote to security agencies in respect of her husband’s death in custody.
