NSE: Index sustains growth to 11th session by 0.54% on earnings’ expectations

Activities on the nation’s bourse maintained a positive trend to the eleventh consecutive trading day, with the All-Share Index rising by 180.90 points or 0.54 per cent to close at 33,695.83, on Thursday.

Also, the market capitalisation, which opened at N11.550 trillion appreciated by N62.3 billion or 0.55 per cent to close at N11.613 tr, amid price appreciation.

Market analysts attributed market resilience to earnings expectations that had kicked -off in the market and positive economic data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

A breakdown of the price movement table indicated that Neimeth and Skye Bank recorded the highest gain of 9.52 per cent on the gainers’ chart to close at 92 kobo and 69 kobo respectively.

Wapco followed with a gain of 5 per cent to close at N54.60, Dangote Flour garnered 4.95 per cent to close at N5.04 per share and UACN added 4.89 per cent to close at N17.39 per share.

Conversely, 7up topped the losers’ chart, dropping by N4.99 to close at N90.21 per share. Vitafoam trailed with a loss of 4.83 per cent to close at N2.56 and AG Leventis shed 4 per cent to close at 72 kobo per share.

Berger declined by 3.78 per cent to close at N7.12 and PZ depreciated by 3.63 per cent to close at N21.25 per share.

The volume of shares traded dropped by 42.24 per cent as investors bought and sold 191.43 million shares valued at N2.18b in 3,718 deals.

This was against a turnover of 331.43 million shares worth N3.24B exchanged in 4,055 deals on Wednesday.

The Financial Services Industry remained the toast of investors with Prestige Assurance emerging the most active with an exchange of 26.76 million shares valued at N13.38M.

Guaranty Trust Bank came second with 18.75 million shares worth N692. 37M and Transcorp sold 15.84 million shares valued at N23.88M.

FBN Holdings accounted for 13.88 million shares worth N84.50m, while Zenith International Bank traded 11.15 million shares valued at N245. 64 m.
