NPFL big guns line up for Gold Cup

Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) giants, Enyimba and Kano Pillars, have been listed among 10 clubs that will feature in this year’s edition of the pre-season tournament, the Gold Cup.
According to general coordinator of the tournament, Tunde Shamsudeen, the pre-season competition, billed for the Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu-Ode, is to “help the teams test their players” ahead of the new season likely to kick off in December or January.
“The tournament will be of high level and is basically to ignite the spirit of the game and to also help the teams test their players before the league season proper,” Shamsudeen said.
He added that NPFL outfits, Lobi Stars, MFM FC, Niger Tornadoes, Sunshine Stars and newly-promoted Remo Stars as well as lower tier clubs, FC Ebedei, Crown FC and Supreme Court FC will feature at the tournament that will run from November 25 to December 4.
The clubs have been drawn into groups.
Kano Pillars, FC Ebedei, MFM FC, Niger Tornadoes and Sunshine Stars will play in Group A while former CAF Champions League winners, Enyimba, face Crown FC, Lobi Stars, Supreme Court FC and Remo Stars in Group B.
