NLC leaders in Ekiti emerge, as Fayemi promises to pay new minimum wage

The former Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, Ekiti state University branch, Comrade Olatunde Kolapo has been elected as the new chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Ekiti state.
At the delegate conference which took place in Ado Ekiti, Comrade Kolapo emerged unopposed among other executive members.
Speaking at the occasion, the NLC National President, Comrade Ayuba Waba whose address was delivered by one of the ex-officio member, Comrade Maureen Onyia-Ekwuazi, said the congress would not take anything short of N30, 000 as minimum wage from state governors.
Comrade Waba urged the new labour leaders to be resolute and committed in the struggle for the welfare of their members without compromise.
Performing the opening ceremony, Ekiti state Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Biodun Omoleye, promised the readiness of the state government to pay the N30, 000 minimum wage.
The governor said the newly elected leadership of the trade unions in the state would be invited soon for a meeting on the modalities to ensure payment and further announced that all facilities at government offices would be upgraded while conducive environment would be provided to ensure the optimal performance of workers.
Head of Service, Mr. Ayodeji Ajayi, had earlier reiterated the commitment of state government to the welfare of workers.
