NLC, ITUC-Africa meet to review labour data
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in collaboration with the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC-Africa) will meet to review available information on labour practices on the continent.
They would be meeting under the auspices of a two- day regional conference in Abuja, tagged “Advancing Decent Work in Global Supply Chains in Africa”.
The ITUC represents 180 million workers in 162 countries and territories, with 333 national affiliates including the Nigeria Labour Congress.
The regional planning meeting will be in Nigeria on Monday and Tuesday, July 25 – 26, 2016.
A statement signed by the NLC General Secretary, Dr. Peter Ozo-Eson, said the General Secretary of ITUC-Brussels, Belgium, Ms Sharan Burrow, would attend the conference as well as other trade union officials from Belgium, Ghana, Kenya, Niger, Zambia, Senegal and South Africa.
“The regional conference in Nigeria will bring together union leaders with their campaign coordinators from the targeted countries.
“Examine research relating to footprint of largest companies operating in Africa. Correlate national campaign priorities with research and deepen campaign planning.”
