NIRA Academy, AFRINIC signs MoU to develop IPV6 others in Nigeria

The Nigerian Internet Registration Association (NIRA) Academy has signed a memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with AFRINIC, one of the world’s five Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) to develop and certify skills in Internet Number Resources Management and Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPV6) in Nigeria.
The President NIRA, Mr Sunday Folayan made this known during a media briefing in Lagos, adding that the signing of the MOU was perfected at a ceremony at the tail end of the ICANN Government (GAC) Africa workshop in Nairobi, Kenya by Mr Sikiru A Shehu, the Dean of NIRA Academy on behalf NIRA, whilst Mr Alan P.Barret CEO, AFRINIC LTD signed for AFRINIC at
Folayan stated that the MOU creates accessibility to international IPV6 certification for the Nigerian System and Network Engineers, and provides the opportunity for Nigeria to increase the number of internationally recognized and skilled engineers, following the pattern established by AFRINIC.
The trainings would be conducted at the NIRA Academy, using AFRINIC coursewares and certified trainers for the certification programmes,” he said.
He explained that NIRA Academy was established to breed Nigerians that will take full advantage of the jobs and business opportunities, wealth creation and financial rewards that the .ng domain name string has to offer.
The NIRA President also informed the press that the Association has commenced the nomination for individuals and organisations for the .ng Awards by the general public, adding that NIRA uses the .ng Awards to celebrate the achievements and innovation of the Nigerian Internet initiatives.
He added that the award aim to showcase Nigerian businesses, individuals, charity, public and private sector organisations which help to make the Internet a more secure, open, accessible and rewarding experience for all.
