Only NIN is required for Int’l passport – NIMC

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), has clarified that International Passport applicants only need to supply their National Identity Number (NIN) to complete their application form for International passport.

Mixed reactions have trailed the recent announcement by the The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) that any applicant that does not have a National Identity Card cannot acquire the international passport.

The NIMC Head of Communications, Mr. Loveday Ogbonna, who spoke with Daily Times said that International passport applicants are not requires to carry the National Identity Card by but to provide their NIN.

According Ogbonna, “The NIN is the eleven digit number which is contained in the temporal ID Card slip issued to enrolees at the point of capture for the National Identity Card.

“The NIN is now part of the requirements for obtaining an International passport. We know that we have some challenges in the distribution of permanent ID card but what the applicant is required to do is to supply the number which is in their temporal slip.
