Niger PDP wants Gov Bello to explain N6bn bailout fund
The Vice Chairman of the Niger State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Barrister Tanko Beji has lambasted Governor Abubakar Sani Bello over non accountability on the N6 billion bailout fund.
Barrister Beji, while addressing Journalists in his office in Minna, condemned the consistent foreign trips by the governor saying it is to the detriment of the state.
He requested for the expenditure of the seven months statutory allocations to the state. “let Governor Bello come out to tell us what is going on, let him talk or communicate to the people, if he is sick let him tell us and we will pray for him” he stated.
Beji noted the incompetency on the part of the governor, saying that he is not too grounded on the issues concerning the people of Niger state who elected him to govern them which is tantamount to exhibiting incompetence.
He further urged Governor Bello to explain about the N700 million purportedly reported by some media to cover up alleged funds recovered from some officials of last administration.
The Vice Chairman urged the governor to make public from who, when, where and how the money recovered was recovered, adding that its laughable for him to use the Police instead of the court, saying “it was a misplaced priority on the part of the Police”.
Beji added that the state does not need bail out funds because former governor Muazu Babangida Aliyu didn’t leave behind salary arrears.
Barrister Beji challenged Governor Bello to inform the people on how much was accrued to the 25 local government council in the last seven months.
“The governor should make public what has happened to the seven months allocations to the local government councils in the state, how much has been disbursed and how much is left, as well as what is happening to our funds” he declared.
Accordingly, Beji said the PDP has described the non-release of funds to the local government as an aberration, violation of Nigeria constitution and a contradiction to the administration’s “change mantra” slogan.
On the governor’s admittance that he was not paid to sit down in a place, Beji stated he (governor) was not paid to go to London (Stanford Bridge) to watch matches.
Beji further accused Governor Bello of operating contrary to the budget provision in the state, as well as the constitutional provision was not adhered to strictly by the governor.
