NIESV charged on tougher sanctions on fake Surveyors

A fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Estate Surveyors and Valuers
(NIESV) and the Principal Partner of Mayowa Adebiyi & Co. (a firm of
Estate Surveyors and Valuers), Mr. Mayowa Adebiyi, has charged the
leadership of the professional association to enact appropriate laws
that would prescribe tougher sanctions on non-professionals who have
been claiming to be members of the Nigerian Institution of Estate
Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV).
Adebiyi, who made this remark recently at Ota, Ogun State, while
paying host to a group of fresh Estate Surveyors on National Youth
Corp service in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State,
appealed to the Governments at the both the local, state and federal
levels to help in sustaining the nobility of the profession by joining
hands with its relevant organs in the fight against quacks.
He advocated that non-registered members of the Institution whoever
claimed to be professionals should be properly investigated, tried in
the law courts and made to face the full wrath of the law to serve as
deterrent to other impostors.
The Principal Partner of Mayowa Adebilyi & Co. commended the
leadership of the Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers in Lagos
for sustaining the fight against quacks in the profession, noting that
though the problem may not be totally eradicated, other states of the
federation should emulate the Lagos State chapter of the association
in the sustenance of the fight against these fake practitioners who
have given the profession a bad name.
The renowned Estate Surveyor, however, implored other members of the
Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (IESV) in the country to
join hands with the leadership of the organization not only to work
assiduously to ensure the body becomes chartered like other
professional bodies, but also that the laws that established the
institution be more respected,
For a successful career, Adebiyi advised the young Estate Surveyors
and Valuers to have the fear of God, follow due process to develop and
advance in life as well as avoid the get-rich mentality that have
prompted many youths to look for short-cuts and illegal ways to make
money, adding that they should endevour to have the required training
under their seniors in the profession before being on their own.
He counseled them to be upright at all times, be above board, work
hard and endeavour to rededicate themselves to professional practices
and ethical standards in order to help the Estate Surveying profession
to achieve its aims and purposes.
The fellow of NIESV noted that as upcoming Estate Surveyors, they must
read and conduct researches regularly to be versatile in all areas of
human endeavours, stressing that they should know that 21st century
Estate Surveyors must not only be technology compliant, but must be
able to speak the same language with other Estate Surveyors from other
parts of the world.
Adebiyi further urged the young Estate Surveyors not only to believe
in themselves and be slow and steady, but also be consistent,
courageous, fearless and be prepared to uphold the honour and
integrity of the Estate Surveying profession at all times.
