NGO canvasses health care support for orphanage homes

Royal Diamond Orphanage Home (RDOH), a non-government organisation, has reiterated the need for private and government establishments in Nigeria to partner with non-government agencies offering humanitarian services, in the provision of health care support.
Executive Director and co-founder, RDOH, Pastor Favour Olayemi, made the call on Wednesday at the commissioning of the organization’s international headquarters in Ojodu, Lagos.
Pastor Olayemi said his organisation had made it an issue of priority to offer uncompromising health care services to beneficiaries at the orphanage.
This he believes, is the bedrock of good living, without which, even the organisation would experience needless loss of lives.
He said, “We have a medical retainership service with a reputable hospital in the neighbourhood, St. Timothy Catholic Hospital in Ojodu.
“As part of the integrated approach in running orphanage homes, we have a robust and tested model for taking care of the medical and health- related challenges.
“First aid attention is being provided by our residential nurses in collaboration with our part-time medical consultants.
“In the case of any further health crisis, the beneficiaries would be taken to St. Timothy Catholic Hospital, and if it’s a severe case that requires the attention of a medical consultant, we have a good working relationship with both Lagos State general hospitals and specialised children hospitals. We urge both government and private establishments to come to the aid of these beneficiaries in order to make medical services available to them almost at no cost.”
Pastor Olayemi however stressed the need for every concerned institution to be more proactive in providing drugs and infrastructure for emergency cases and to always remain more supportive.
Commissioning the orphanage home in Ojodu, His Royal Highness, Oba Adelani Obatula, the Olojodu of Ojodu, Lagos, described the initiative as a giant stride and great development in the right direction.
The monarch urged the founders not to rest on their oars in their bid to explore the many opportunities of humanitarian services that abound in the initiative.
In his remark, Mr. Adams, who represented the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth Sport and Social Development, attributed the successful approval and commissioning of the orphanage home to the full compliance of the founders with regulations and requirements of the relevant state agency.
He however stressed the need for improvement on the initiative, noting that “the project can only get better and nothing less.”
