New episode of Professor Johnbull addresses ‘breadwinner’ issue in families

This week’s episode of the didactic TV Drama Series, Professor Johnbull, sponsored by the grandmasters of data, Globacom, reflects on the issue of financial upkeep in families, a knotty issue that has led to the disintegration of so many households.

Living up to its billing as the conscience of society, the new episode addresses the issue of who foots the family bills, generally regarded as the “bread winner” in the home, in such a clinical way that viewers of the weekly drama will find it not only entertaining but equally witty and educating.

Aptly entitled Breadwinner, the episode is woven round the family of Mr. and Mrs. Peters, where Mrs. Peters happens to be the one shouldering the financial responsibilities of the family due to the man of the house losing his job.

The programme airs at 8.30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays on NTA Network, NTA international on DSTV Channel 251 and NTA on StarTimes, with a repeat broadcast at 8.30 p.m. on Friday on the same channels, Breadwinner is a voyage in marriage counselling as the lead character in the Series, Professor Johnbull, acted by the Nollywood veteran, Kanayo O. Kanayo (KOK), takes time to advise successful wives on appropriate behaviour whenever they find themselves as breadwinners in their families.

The academic posits that female breadwinners are not supposed to be overbearing as what matters in a home is not who provides the ‘bread’ but the love which exists between the man and the woman. He, therefore, counsels women who are more successful than their husbands not to treat such men as “nonentities”.

Breadwinner throws up such issues as: should a woman earn more than the man? Who should be the financial manager in the home? Should a woman quit a high-paying job to please her husband? Why are men threatened by the level of success attained by their wives?

Besides KOK, others who feature in Breadwinner include the new entrants, Ndi (Angela Okorie), Jeroboam (Osita Iheme), Olaniyi (Yomi Fash-Lanso), Samson (Ogus Baba), Abadnego (Martins Nebo) and Jumoke (Bidemi Kosoko).
