Navy to acquire logistics ship to beef up operations
The Nigerian Navy is working towards acquiring logistics ship to service vessels of its force that are always put on patrol.
Outgoing Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Logistics Command, Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ofik, made this known during his handover to the new Flag Officer Commanding Rear Admiral SAG Abbah in Oghara, Delta State.
According to Adm. Ofik, “For the first time in the history of the Nigerian Navy, considerable effort is being made to acquire large logistics vessel to enhance Replenishment at Sea (RAS). Similarly, all professional schools now have special allocation of fuel AGO to ensure trainees/ UTOs learn and study under comfortable conditions.”
He explained while enumerating the success of the Command that upon assumption of command, in September 2015, he set out with the aim of enhancing its capacity towards delivering the required logistics support for the force’s operations, as well as ensuring the enhancement of personnel welfare, among others.
The outgoing FOC said the task had been quite challenging but considerable progress had been made, especially with the commitment, zeal and support exhibited by the personnel attached to the Command.
He said that the personnel had been working assiduously to ensure that the Operations Commands got the needed support to deploy and sustain ships at sea, in order to perform their statutory roles.
Admiral Ofik urged the personnel of the Command to maintain positive attitude to work and remain resolute in ensuring that the Chief of the Naval Staff Strategic Directive 2015-1 “is strictly observed in the performance of our duties, adding that, “the strategic directive is a commitment to transforming the Navy and enhancing the overall welfare of officers and ratings.”
The Chief of Naval Staff Strategic Directive 2015-1, he noted, had been a tremendous guide which should be adhered to at all times, if the Command was to be on same page with other naval formations always.
While explaining that the bedrock of the military and other successful organisations was discipline, Admiral Ofik enjoined all personnel to remain disciplined and shun activities that would bring the name of the Nigerian Navy into disrepute.
