N136m fraud: Court sentences AVM Omenyi to 7 years imprisonment

…Orders forfeiture of N62m
The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday sentenced Air Marshal Anthony Omenyi (rtd) to 7 years imprisonment over N360 million fraud.

Omenyi, a former Managing Director of the Aeronautical Engineering and Technical Services Ltd, AETSL, who was standing trial on three count corruption charges was found guilty on each of the count and consequently sentenced to 7 years minimum term on each of the count.

Delivering the judgment, Justice Nnamdi Dimgba also ordered the forfeiture of N62 million recovered from the convict by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The judge said that prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt that Air Vice Omenyi who was in active service at the time the money laundering offence took place and had received the sum of N360m from a contractor with the Nigerian Air Force, while he was a public officer.

The convict, a former Managing Director of Aeronautical Engineering and Technical Services Limited, a subsidiary company of NAF, received the money as kickbacks or bribe from SkyExperts Nigeria Limited, in 2014.

The judge also ordered that the company, Huzee Nigeria Limited, through which the convict was said to have received the sum of N136m from the contractor, SkyExperts Nigeria Limited, be wound up by the Federal Government.

The court also ordered that the sum of N62m already recovered from the convict by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission be forfeited to the Federal Government.
