We must be bold to say the President is wrong, when he is wrong — Kaigama

The immediate past President of Catholic Bishops of Nigeria, Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama, has said Nigerians should be bold to say the President is wrong when he is wrong.
Kaigama stated this Thursday while interacting with our correspondent on the State of the Nation.
He said, “Why should a Nigerian not say the President is wrong in a decision he has taken that is not in the interest of the country.
“Why should a Nigerian not say we don’t feel safe because those who are meant to protect us has failed in their duty; why are Nigerians so afraid to voice their concerns in a democratic system of government”.
“They are taking us back to the days of the Military where we have no opinion; so I am quit worried.
“When you say to leaders people are hungry they say no it is not true: when you tell leaders that people are not safe they will disagree with you.
“I live in Jos where people are killed and butchered even in the presence of security and when you voice these opinion, you become an enemy of government”.
Kaigama who is also the Catholic Bishop of Jos said we are headed towards a cloudy future because people allow sentiments to rule their reasoning, which does not give room for objective analysis of issues.
“The moment someone voice an opinion that is critical to government, he start receiving insults and accusations and they will try to frame you by calling you names”.
He said when there is any allegation on anyone, whether it is against religious leaders or political leaders, or the security, we should try to be less sentimental and examine the Issues deeply, Kaigama said.
