The foundations of Past Nigerian President’s- The Murtala Mohammed and TY Danjuma Foundations on Saturday demonstrated foresight when they jointly provided Jalingo secondary school students basic needs needed to help develop ICT Skills.
The foundations launched a computer laboratory for Government Science Secondary School Jalingo in Taraba.
Briefing Journalists at the project site, Mr. Samson Adeleke, the ICT Manager of the Murtala Mohammed Foundation said it the solar-powered laboratory has 10 computers with their accessories.
Adeleke said that while T. Y. Danjuma Foundation provided the fund, the Murtala Mohammed Foundation implemented the project.
He said, 10 teachers drawn from five Secondary Schools in Jalingo metropolis along with two officials from the state ministry of education were trained to run the laboratory.
Adeleke explained that the teachers were equipped with the knowledge that would be imparted to their students.
“Five maintenance staff have also been trained to take care of the facility.”
Mrs Lami Joel, the Director of Science and Technology in the Taraba Ministry of Education described the project as very timely because it would help school children who would be sitting for computer-based examination.
She called on other foundations and philanthropic organisations to also assist schools in preparing their students for the challenges posed by new technologies.(NAN)
