MTN Nigeria to begin rolling out 4G LTE services in July

MTN Nigeria is set to launch its 4G LTE Network in selected Nigerian cities in July using the 800MHz frequency it secured from Visafone and to have 1,500 LTE sites transmitted with fibre optics by the end of this year.
According to MTN CEO, Mr. Ferdinand Moolman, Visafone subscribers will be migrated onto the MTN network so they can clean up their frequency and launch the LTE services.
The selected cities for this launch which has not been made public stem from the result of MTN’s analysis of data usage across the country.
Industry watchers are wondering why MTN didn’t release this in Nigeria earlier since MTN had already launched LTE services in other countries like Rwanda and Uganda before it planned to launch here.
However, Ntel launched their LTE service in April in Nigeria.
