Following failure of Kogi State government to pay salary to workers, the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) Federal Medical Centre Lokoja chapter, an affiliate of Nigeria Medical Association, has donated the sum of N200,000 to the newly employed doctors who are yet to receive payment for several months.
Delivering the cheque on Friday to the Chairman of Nigeria Medical Association Dr Godwin Tijani at the Nigeria Union of Journalists Press centre Lokoja, Secretary of the MDCAN in Kogi state said that it has dawned on them
that the young doctors have been subjected to untold hardship despite their valuable contributions to the health care programme of government and people of Kogi state.
MDCAN lamented that the newly employed Doctors have alot and urged organisations and individuals to. come. to the aid of the Doctors so that they can. give their best to the people.
Meanwhile,Kogi state government has assured that all its workers will be paid by the end of December.
Commissionerfor Health Dr Saka Haruna who was at the congress meeting of the NMA to resollve the threat of the impending strike to be embarked upon by the Doctors,promised that the government has completed all necessary arrangement to pay all workers before the end of December.
Dr Haruna pleaded with the Doctors to exercise restraints and reason with the government in view of the financial. quagmire that has crippled the state,pointing out that the Association should hold him responsible if government fails to pay them.
Last week the NMA Kogi state chapter threatened to resume strike it suspended in June this following agreement reached with government to meet their numerous demands.
