Mayhem In Okpo Ihiechiowa As Gunmen Invade Community

Suspected members of the dreaded Eastern Security Network”(ESN on Wednesday January 5, 2022 invaded Okpo Ihechiowa, Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia state.

According to an eye witness Kalu Okorie, the marauding invaded unleashed mayhem and injured some of the community youths, who are members of the Indigenous peoples of Biafra ( IPOB), who have been vocal and going against them over their nefarious and illegal activities in the Eastern region.

According to the eye witness about four of the young men were seriously wounded with matchete and other dangerous weapons. One of the youths Oluchukwu Ukah Diogu was returning home when he was confronted by the invaders that happened to be the Eastern Security Network (ESN) who had surrounded the village without the residents knowledge. Oluchukwu sustained severe injuries,

It was also gathered that Oluchukwu, the Youth Provost, is a pro-IPOB member. He had been tortured by the gunmen during the night and was accused of being a saboteur for refusing to let them, (ESN) carry out their illegal activities in the community. As Oluchukwu and other youth leaders believed that such actions was inimical to the aims and objectives of IPOB

The gunmen also attacked some other residents, inflicting injuries resulting in serious machete cuts and injuries. Tragically, this violence led to the death of Oluchukwu’s uncle,,Mazi Amadi Diogu and his son.,other persons who sustained serious injures were Njoku Ole, Kelechi Okorie, and Mathew Ndu.

Since this unfortunate incident several youths have fled the village to avoid being killed, particularly the youth leaders, who the ESN accused of frustrating there efforts in the community

A local chieftain in Okpo Ihechiowa, who spoke to our reporter on condition of anonymity, for fear of been killed said that the community had days before the attack noticed strange movement and unfamiliar faces in the community, saying that they had fixed a date to convened a meeting of family heads to discuss their presence and motives in the village. Unfortunately, before they could act on this decision, the gunmen launched their attack.

He further told us that there was a previous clash between the ESN and the Nigerian Army which also led to killing and burning of houses in the community.

The chieftain confirmed that the incident has been reported to the police.
