Man sentenced to death for killing Father in Ekiti

An Ado Ekiti High Court in Ekiti State has sentenced a man, Blessing Olumakinde to death for killing his father, Benson Egunlae over inheritance.
The state Chief Judge, Justice Ayodeji Daramola, who handed down the sentence held that evidence before the court showed that the accused was guilty of murder as charged.
The accused had in his confessional statement to the Police admitted killing his father in the hut on the farm.
Exhibits including the axe and cutlass with which the accused stabbed his father on the head and the chest and pictures were tendered and admitted.
The prosecution called two witnesses in the course of trial while the accused testified in his defence.
The court held that the prosecution has proved the case beyond the reasonable doubt hence the accused should be hanged by the neck until life goes out of him.
It was on record that the slain father of the accused had six wives and eighteen children who were locked on the sharing of his parcels of land, and appatrntly issatisfied with the share allotted to him, Blessing, 47, reportedly traced his father and attacked him with cutlass and axe killing him in the process and ran away.
Other siblings who were shocked to meet their father in a pool of his own blood made spirited effort to resscue thier father by immediately rushing him to the hospital where he was eventually confirmed dead.
The convict after committing the murder, ran away for six months before turning himself over to the Police after which he arraigned on one-count charge of murder.
The state was represented by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Owoseni Ajayi, while the accused person was represented by Morakinyo Ogele.
