Man docked for malicious damage to property

A 28-year-old man, Jamiu Salami, who allegedly maliciously damaged a bore-hole pipe was on Wednesday brought before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun.

Salami, who resides at No.13, Ademola St., Iyana-Ilogbo, Ota in Ogun, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and malicious damage to property.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused and others at large, committed the offences on Sept. 26 at about 2.30 p.m. at Nero Village, Ota.

He said that the accused and his accomplices conspired and damaged a bore-hole pipe valued at N280,000 belonging to one Ufuoma Uhunowakpo.

Gbesi said that the offences committed contravened Sections 355 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun 2006.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Senior Magistrate, Mr S.O. Banwo, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He said that the sureties must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction and should be gainfully employed.

Banwo also ordered that the sureties should swear to an affidavit of means and produce evidence of tax payment to Ogun government.

He also directed that the sureties should submit four recent passport photographs to the court and their addresses should be verified by the police.

The case was adjourned till Oct. 25 for hearing.
